The Ford Expedition maintains its reputation as one of the most comfortable and capable large SUVs on the market at Brondes Ford in Toledo, OH. This year it gets new standard safety features and the addition of the upscale King Ranch trim.

King Ranch and Platinum trims get special exterior treatment, focusing on new 22-inch wheels. The Expedition is newly available in Desert Gold, Iconic Silver, Rapid Red Metallic Tri-Coat, Burgundy, Velvet Metallic, Tinted Clearcoat, and Star White Metallic Tri-Coat.

The Expedition comes standard with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine, rated for 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. For more power, look at the Platinum trim, which upgrades the powertrain to 400 hp and 480 lb-ft. Both get a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) comes standard and 4-wheel drive (4WD) is available. Maximum towing capacity checks in at 9,300 pounds. The standard Terrain Management system offers drive modes for Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, EcoSelect, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand, and Mud/Rut conditions.

This year’s trim lineup features XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. Every Expedition features three rows of seats and can be configured for 7 or 8 passengers. For extra space, check out the Expedition Max, which is about a foot longer. Standard features include cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and new 3-zone automatic climate control. A panoramic moonroof, synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power-folding second row are among the options. The Limited trim adds the XLT’s options along with leather upholstery and a heated second row. King Ranch and Platinum trims feature different upgraded upholstery and trim packages.

Every Expedition includes a 6-speaker audio system, the SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WiFi support for up to 10 devices. Most trim levels offer second-row USB ports, navigation, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a rear entertainment system.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the new Expedition a 5-star overall rating. Standard safety features include a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, and the MyKey safety system. The Co-Pilot360 tech package comes standard and includes automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Platinum and King Ranch trims add a 360-degree camera and the Co-Pilot360 Assist package.
