Be Aware of Your Differential Fluid Levels

Why and When You Should Service Your Differentials

There are a considerable amount of gears and bearings in the simplest of differentials. Some complicated differentials will have as many as a hundred metal parts that must be kept cool and separated by a special fluid called “differential fluid,” to run safely without grinding.

If there is the smallest of leaks in a differential, the fluid will gradually lower. When the differential fluid is low enough, the gears will no longer pick it up and spread it over the gear surfaces. There are immense pressures within a differential. A lack of fluid will cause damage that may cause loss of control of the vehicle while driving.

You should service your differential at least every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Have the differential checked during every oil change to maintain fluid levels.

Bring your vehicle to our service center here at Brondes Ford Toledo in Toledo, OH to have your differential checked and serviced.
